Key features include waterproof and breathable fabric, taped seams, insulation (down or synthetic), a high collar, helmet-compatible hood, snow skirt, underarm vents, and multiple pockets for storage. Adjustable cuffs, articulated sleeves, and attachment systems to connect to ski pants enhance comfort and functionality on the slopes.

Insulated ski jackets combine a waterproof shell with down or synthetic insulation for warmth, making them ideal for cold conditions. Shell jackets are lightweight, uninsulated, and designed for layering, providing flexibility for changing weather or high-intensity skiing.

Look for a ski jacket with a waterproof rating of at least 10,000mm for most skiing conditions. For harsher weather or deep powder, a 20,000mm rating offers superior protection. Breathability is also important for comfort during active use.

A ski jacket should allow room for layering but not be overly loose. Ensure the sleeves are long enough, the hem covers your lower back, and you have freedom of movement, especially in the arms and shoulders. Use brand size guides for the best fit.

A snow skirt (powder cuff) is an elastic band inside the jacket that prevents snow from entering if you fall or ski in deep powder. It helps keep you dry and warm by sealing out snow at the waist.
