Travel luggage falls into three main categories: wheeled suitcases for easy airport and urban travel, duffel bags (with or without wheels) for versatility and bulky gear, and wheeled backpacks for adventure trips where you might need to carry your bag over rough terrain. Hard shell suitcases offer superior protection against impacts and are often water-resistant, making them ideal for air travel and protecting fragile items. Soft shell suitcases are lighter, more flexible, and typically offer external pockets for organisation. Your choice depends on your packing style, durability needs, and preference for accessibility. 

Look for durable materials, smooth-rolling wheels, sturdy zippers, comfortable handles, and a reliable warranty. Useful extras include compression straps, internal organisers, expandable compartments, and water-resistant sections. Some premium models offer USB ports, laundry bags, and TSA-approved locks for added convenience and security. 

Carry-on bags (about 20–22 inches) suit short trips and fit in overhead bins, while medium (24–26 inches) and large (28–30+ inches) suitcases are best for longer journeys. Duffel bags come in various sizes and are ideal for gear-heavy or adventure travel. Always check airline size and weight restrictions before choosing your luggage. 

Duffel bags, especially those with wheels, are great for air travel when carrying sports equipment or irregularly shaped gear. They offer flexible packing space and are easy to stow in car boots or overhead bins.
