Sunscreen is crucial on the slopes because UV exposure increases with altitude and snow reflects sunlight, intensifying the risk of sunburn - even on cloudy days. Use a high-factor, broad-spectrum SPF on your face and lips, and reapply throughout the day to protect against sun damage and premature ageing.

Windburn is common due to harsh, cold winds on the mountain. Apply a protective balm or cream with ingredients like zinc or shea butter to exposed areas such as your nose and cheeks. These create a barrier against the elements and help prevent chapping and irritation.

Cold, dry air and physical activity can quickly dehydrate your skin. Use a rich, hydrating moisturiser before and after skiing to lock in moisture. Drink plenty of water throughout the day and consider applying a nourishing night cream or oil to repair and replenish your skin overnight.

Lips are especially prone to dryness, cracking, and sunburn at altitude. Use an SPF lip balm before heading out and reapply regularly. For added protection, layer a healing balm over your sunscreen to keep lips soft and shielded from wind and sun.

After skiing, cleanse your skin thoroughly to remove sunscreen, sweat, and impurities. Follow with a hydrating serum or moisturiser to soothe and repair wind- or sun-exposed skin. If you experience sunburn, apply a calming cream like Biafine to reduce redness and promote healing.
