A wetsuit should fit like a second skin - snug but not restrictive, with no gaps under the arms, lower back, or behind the knees. Use your height, weight, chest, and waist measurements to select the best size from the brand’s chart. If between sizes, opt for the larger size for comfort.

For most beginners, a 3/2mm or 4/3mm wetsuit provides enough warmth without restricting movement. Choose thickness based on water temperature: thinner suits for warmer water, thicker for colder conditions. Always consider when and where you’ll be swimming to ensure comfort and safety.

A wetsuit should be as tight to the skin as possible without causing discomfort. You should be able to move freely, and the suit shouldn’t pucker under the arms or bunch around the waist. The leg cuffs should finish just above the ankle, and you shouldn’t be able to pull a handful of material anywhere.

Essential accessories include a brightly coloured swim cap for visibility, goggles suited to open water, and a tow float for safety. In colder conditions, consider neoprene gloves, socks, and a thermal swim cap. These accessories enhance comfort, safety, and visibility during your swim.

Most swimmers wear either a swimsuit, swim trunks, or a thin rash vest under their wetsuit. Avoid bulky clothing, as it can cause discomfort and chafing. Some prefer to go without anything underneath for maximum flexibility and to reduce potential friction.
