A 10,000mm waterproof rating is the industry standard for snowboard pants, providing reliable protection for most conditions. For heavy snow, wet climates, or backcountry riding, consider pants with a 15,000mm to 20,000mm rating or higher for maximum dryness and storm protection. 

Snowboard pants come in various fits: classic for comfort and layering, slim or tailored for a modern look with mobility, and tall fits for extra length. Choose a fit that allows freedom of movement and enough room for thermal layers underneath. Check brand size charts for waist and inseam measurements to ensure the best fit. 

While both offer similar waterproofing and insulation, snowboard pants often feature a looser fit for greater mobility, reinforced panels for durability, and style elements specific to snowboarding. They may also include extra pockets and unique venting options tailored to snowboarders’ needs. 

Breathability, measured in grams (g/m²/24hr), allows sweat vapor to escape, keeping you dry and comfortable during high-exertion riding. A minimum breathability rating of 10,000g is recommended for active snowboarders, especially in warmer or variable conditions. 

Wash snowboard pants with technical detergent, avoid fabric softeners, and close all zippers before washing. Air dry or tumble dry on low to reactivate the water-repellent finish. Reapply DWR (Durable Water Repellent) treatment as needed to maintain waterproofing and performance.
