Snowsports clothing uses technical fabrics like GORE-TEX, nylon, polyester, and merino wool. GORE-TEX and polyurethane offer top-level waterproofing and breathability, while nylon and polyester provide durability and quick-drying performance. Merino wool is prized for insulation, breathability, and moisture-wicking, making it ideal for base and mid-layers.

Synthetic insulation is lightweight, water-resistant, quick-drying, and retains warmth even when wet—ideal for active use and variable conditions. Natural insulation like down and merino wool delivers superior warmth and breathability but may lose insulating power when wet (except merino wool, which resists moisture).

Taped seams and waterproof zips prevent water from seeping through stitching and openings, ensuring your jacket or pants remain fully waterproof. Fully taped garments offer the highest protection, while critically taped ones focus on high-exposure areas like shoulders and chest.

Snowsports clothing should allow freedom of movement and space for layering. Ski styles are typically slimmer for heat retention, while snowboard styles are looser for flexibility. Reinforced areas at the ankles and joints add durability for high-wear zones.

Look for features like adjustable hoods with face protection, snow gaiters, ventilation zips, reinforced cuffs, and body-mapped insulation. These details enhance warmth, weather protection, and ease of use, helping you stay comfortable and safe in changing mountain conditions.
