Spyder was founded in 1978 by David L. Jacobs, a former Canadian downhill ski champion and ski coach. Jacobs started Spyder in his Boulder, Colorado kitchen to create better ski race apparel for his sons and the ski racing community.
The name Spyder originated from a pair of navy blue racing pants with yellow foam pads resembling spider legs. Jacobs liked the powerful, memorable imagery and altered the spelling with a “y” inspired by the Porsche Spyder sports car.
Spyder designs and manufactures high-performance ski apparel and outerwear including race suits, jackets, pants, base layers, and accessories. It is known for combining technical innovation with style and function for skiers of all levels.
Spyder has outfitted numerous Olympic and World Championship medalists, making it a trusted brand among elite alpine, freestyle, and freeski athletes.
Yes, Spyder has diversified its offerings over the years to include casual wear and lifestyle apparel, while maintaining its roots in performance snowsports gear.
Spyder combines innovative fabric technologies, functional design, and a strong race heritage to deliver apparel that performs under the toughest conditions while looking stylish.
