Expanded polyethylene (ePE) is a strong yet lightweight material that makes gear durable and waterproof without using perfluorinated chemicals. Traditionally, expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) was used for these membranes due to its exceptional hydrophobic and durable qualities. Patagonia has taken it a step further by introducing new GORE-TEX performance products, using ePE membrane.
