READ: NEARLY-WILD CAMPING: OUR FAVOURITE SPOTS / UK WILD CAMPING KIT LIST

Snow+Rock camping and expedition kit gives you the core gear for overnight trips in cold, mountain and snowy conditions. It's time to choose your sleep system, shelter, cooking equipment, and pack setup you need for safe, comfortable nights outdoors.

Winter camping gear supports you when the wind, snow, and wet ground drain body heat fast. An expedition sleeping bag with a clear temperature rating helps you sleep safely, especially when paired with an insulated sleeping mat. A well‑rated sleeping mat reduces heat loss to frozen ground on ski touring bivvies, alpine approaches, and exposed campsites.

Weather protection comes from a robust tent or similar shelter that can handle snow loading and side gusts. A backpack with a supportive hip belt keeps heavy winter loads stable on skin tracks and long descents. This fit and layering compatibility matters when you are wearing a padded jacket over your base layers and moving for hours.

Backpacking stoves and fuel let you cook hot food and drinks quickly at a transition or in a camp after dark. Fast access to hot water and meals improves energy and morale on long days above treeline. Water treatment and insulated bottles keep drinking water available when temperatures drop overnight.

Shop Snow+Rock camping and expedition kit to build a compact, cold‑ready setup that performs when the forecast turns and the days get longer.

For a camping expedition, pack a tent with stakes and a mallet, sleeping bag, sleeping pad or mat, camping pillow, headlamp or flashlight with spare batteries, camp chairs, a stove with fuel, cooking utensils, water container, and weather-appropriate clothing. Don’t forget repair tools like duct tape and a multi-tool for unexpected fixes.

Select a sleeping bag based on the season and expected temperatures. Look for bags rated slightly lower than the coldest temperature you anticipate. Consider insulation type (down or synthetic), weight, and packability. For expeditions, lightweight, compact, and weather-resistant sleeping bags are ideal for both warmth and convenience.

Safety gear should include a first aid kit, whistle, compass, headlamp or flashlight, spare batteries, multi-tool, and emergency blanket. For mountain or remote expeditions, add a climbing helmet, altimeter or GPS watch, and extra carabiners. Always practice using your safety equipment before your trip.

Use dry bags, stuff sacks, or clear plastic bins to organise and protect your gear from moisture and dirt. Store essential items in waterproof liners inside your rucksack. Keep electronics and important documents in sealed waterproof pouches, and always have spare bags for separating wet or dirty items.

Optional comfort items include inflatable mattresses, camp tables, portable coffee makers, extra blankets, camp rugs, and compact games or books. For longer trips, consider bringing a small broom and dustpan, a camp grill, and a portable lantern for added convenience and enjoyment at your campsite.

Bring a camping stove with suitable fuel, pots and pans, cooking utensils, matches or a lighter, a coolbox for perishables, and cleaning supplies like washing up liquid and a sponge. Don’t forget plates, bowls, cutlery, and a kettle for hot drinks. A water container is essential for both cooking and drinking needs.

Pack waterproof trousers and jackets, extra warm layers, spare socks, and a hat and gloves. Use a tent with a waterproof footprint and rainfly, and bring extra tent pegs for added stability. Store clothes and gear in waterproof bags to keep everything dry in case of rain or snow.
