Pennies

Protecting our happy places

Pennies is the leading charity working to protect and grow micro-donations for organisations like the National Trust.

Pennies allows you to donate as little as one penny at checkout to support the National Trust’s work, so you can do your bit without breaking the bank. Collectively, these small donations really do add up.

Let’s make a difference together and protect the outside places that bring us joy.

Why everyone needs nature

We all have our favourite outdoor escapes, whether it's exploring rugged terrains, hiking scenic trails, or venturing into the wilderness. Together with the National Trust, we believe that hiking, running and exploring in nature should be accessible to everyone. Whether it's the thrill of conquering a new peak, the rush of a challenging hike, or the pure joy of blazing new trails, nature enriches our experiences in the great outdoors.

Why we’re supporting the National Trust

The National Trust helps preserve the places that make us smile, actively working to safeguard our landscapes and wildlife from the threats posed by climate change. They're doing this through projects like creating rich grasslands and meadows to boost pollinator numbers and help ecosystems thrive.

We're proud to support the National Trust by raising vital funds for their Everyone Needs Nature Appeal, restoring meadows, replenishing woodlands, cultivating new green spaces, and creating an environment where nature thrives for future generations.

  • £5 could restore 12 square metres of wildflower meadows, creating shelter and food for important pollinators like bees and butterflies.
  • £25 could help plant and protect five new saplings, helping future woodland thrive.
  • £50 could help provide a ranger with the equipment to restore and protect a place of natural beauty.

What is Pennies?

Pennies is an award-winning fintech charity with an important mission: to protect and grow micro-donations, ensuring people have digital ways to keep donating the small sums of money that are so vital to charities.

As a trusted leader in digital micro-donations, Pennies has created a movement that encourages giving, offers businesses a powerful way to demonstrate social purpose, helps charities make a greater impact, and gives the public a way to donate without cash, as part of their daily lives.

In an increasingly cashless society, Pennies’ ‘digital charity box’ gives customers paying by card or digital wallet a convenient way to add a small donation to their purchase, when shopping with participating retailers.  Whether in-store, online or in-app, it’s a simple, affordable, data-free way to donate, with 100% of funds raised going to charity.

Millions of people are now using the digital charity box. To date, Pennies has enabled more than 100 million micro-donations, raising millions of pounds in much-needed additional income for charities in the UK and Republic of Ireland.  Together, payment providers, retailers and their customers are helping hundreds of charities make a meaningful difference to the causes and communities they serve.
