Ice grips, also known as ice cleats or traction aids, are devices that attach to your shoes or boots to provide extra grip on icy or snowy surfaces. They help prevent slips and falls, making winter walking, running, or working outdoors much safer for everyone from commuters to outdoor enthusiasts.

Most ice grips use flexible rubber or elastomer harnesses that stretch over your shoes or boots. Some models use straps or a combination of straps and rubber. They’re designed for quick, easy application and can fit a wide range of footwear, including boots, sneakers, and even heels.

There are basic models with a few metal studs for city use, mid-range options with more studs or coils for mixed terrain, and aggressive, crampon-style grips for hiking or trail running. Choose based on your activity and the conditions - studs offer better grip on sheet ice, while coils are more comfortable for walking.

Most ice grips are designed to fit a variety of footwear, from casual shoes to heavy-duty boots. Some models are even compatible with high heels. Always check the product’s sizing and compatibility guidelines to ensure a secure fit for your specific footwear.

Standard ice grips are not recommended for indoor use, as the metal spikes or studs can be slippery and may damage floors. Transitional traction models allow you to rotate the spikes out of the way for safe indoor walking, but most should be removed before going inside.
