Gaiters are protective coverings worn over your boots and lower legs to shield against moisture, mud, snow, and debris. They help keep your feet dry and comfortable by covering the gap between your trousers and footwear, preventing water, dirt, and stones from entering your boots during hiking, mountaineering, or snowy activities.

There are hiking gaiters (lightweight, for mild conditions), mountaineering gaiters (heavy-duty, waterproof, for harsh environments), and trail running gaiters (very light, mainly for debris protection). Choose based on your activity and expected conditions - mountaineering gaiters offer the most protection, while hiking and running gaiters prioritise breathability and weight.

Wear gaiters in wet, muddy, or snowy terrain, when crossing streams, or in areas with lots of loose debris. They’re also useful in dry, dusty conditions to keep sand and small stones out of your boots. Keep them handy in your pack to put on when weather or terrain changes unexpectedly.

Gaiters block water, snow, mud, and debris from entering your boots. They also protect your lower legs from scratches, abrasions, and even insect or snake bites in some environments. In cold conditions, gaiters provide extra insulation for warmth.

Some gaiters are made from waterproof materials for use in rain or snow, while others focus on breathability and are not fully waterproof. Mountaineering gaiters are typically waterproof, whereas trail running gaiters are usually not. Always check the product description to match your needs.
