Berghaus Women's Cinderdale Mac

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 7 reviewers.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Love this coat I love this coat. The fit is amazing and is very flattering as it comes in at the waist. Its lightweight but also very warm. Also waterproof. The rain just slides off and what is left sits on the top. I am 5ft 7 so was looking for a coat that was nice and long and this is great for me. The only slight drawback is that the two way zip can be a tad difficult to do up sometimes. Annoying when your out and about and need to zip up quickly! 02 March 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great, well fitting waterproof which is still warm and fashionable as above, only challenge is the double zip at times! 16 February 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great for the winter This coat was brought as an Xmas present and the couple of times I've worn it in the rain it seems very effective. The rain seems to sit on top of the coat surface. I really brought this coat as a rain Mac but I have also worn it in the recent cold weather and it has also kept me very warm. 28 January 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by good Practical and stylish. Could be even more tailored and then it'd be knock out. 27 January 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by So glad I got it.Perfect Was going to get a top make waterproof 'duvet' coat ie one filled with down until I read in the newspapers about the terrible injuries inflicted on these poor geese and ducks when they are 'live plucked' . So , I looked at the alternatives. Long length , hooded, properly waterproof and stylish warm coats are thin on the ground . Then I saw this Cinderdale mac. Nice green colour , well tailored, totally waterproof , windproof longer length quality coat. Im a size 12 (thats a medium fit) 5ft6" and it comes about an inch above my knee - another inch lower would have been better to stop rain dripping onto my knee but all the coats I tried were like that .Slight nuisance but not a major problem . On the Berghaus website it says the Cinderdale mac has ' Hydroloft' insulation beneath the quilted lining, to keep you warm . This must be extremely thin as you can't tell by look and feel. However, I have used this now in biting wind around -1 over a thin jumper and woollen cardi, and not felt cold, and theres room for an armless fleece if the weather gets worse. It IS waterproof , and the outer shell dries quickly when you come in . The zip is a two way one, so great for opening a bit from the bottom when you sit down for driving . The poppers on the front flap are sturdy and dont come undone on their own. The hood is detachable. Because I have long hair and wear it up, I found this pulled the hood backwards on my head , so the tightening cord was set too far back and the hood wouldnt stay on . I wanted the fur hood to come down round my face snugly like a parka . Solved this by letting the cord out completely , taking the bottom popper off the hood at each side and attaching it to a spare popper I found under a flap . It was one of two poppers being used to help attach the hood to the coat, but only one was needed, so the 'spare' one was perfect. This done both sides, the fur then came round my face with no gaps. Perfect. I love this coat. 16 January 2015

Rated 4 out of 5 by Great coat This coat caught my eye straight away because of the tailored fit. It fits really well without being restrictive. The colour of the fur trim compliments coat really well too. I got the green colour which is more vibrant than khaki, which is nice.Very happy with this item. Water proofing looks good so far. Coat is warm without looking over-sized. Certainly not a cheap coat but I would consider as an investment over several years. 10 November 2014

Glossary

AQ™2: A vapour transmission rate of 8,000g/m2/24hrs means that moisture can easily escape through the fabric, enhancing performance. This offers great waterproofing, breathability and is lightweight.
Breathability Rating: Breathability is measured as a rating in grams of how much vapour a square metre of fabric will allow to pass through in 24 hours (g/m2/24). For general use, 10000g/m2/24 and above is desirable. It should be noted that breathable fabrics do not stop you sweating and care should be taken as to clothing worn beneath waterproof/breathable shells. High quality base layers and fleece or insulated midlayers should in themselves draw vapour from the body and pass it outwards, thus allowing the outer fabric to do its job. Cotton clothing should never be worn as part of a performance clothing layering system.
Waterproof Rating: This is measured and expressed as Hydrostatic Head in millimetres (mm). To find out the Hydrostatic Head of a fabric the manufacturer will take a clear tube and clamp their material over the bottom end. They will then fill the tube slowly with water and watch to see how high the column of water can get before the material lets drips through. The higher the hydrostatic head, the better the water protection. The European Standard a fabric must meet to be classified as waterproof is a Hydrostatic Head rating of 1500mm, and on average, outerwear fabrics tend to have a hydrostatic head of 10000mm and above.
