From the parks and pipes of Tignes, France, Snow+Rock sponsored snowboarder Cerys Allen reports back on the early-season powder.

I’ve been doing the crazy sport of freestyle snowboarding for almost seven years and training with the GB Park and Pipe Team for three years, starting when I was about 12.

I’m loving every moment, travelling around the UK (usually with my dad and sister), doing everything from events and comps to training and coaching.

The latest training camp in Tignes, France, focussed on our riding skills, with some helpful off piste and avalanche training from the locals.

We were riding with some of the UK’s best up-and-coming snowboarders. We were also thrilled to be joined by Olympic Slopestyle Bronze Medallist Jenny Jones!

We did plenty of training off the mountain too, including snowboard maintenance and trampolining, vaulting and crazy obstacle courses in the gym.

After many years of being too terrified to attempt a backflip, my coaches finally convinced me to do one on the trampoline!

This early on in the season Tignes doesn’t have a big park, so we went out off piste across the mountain and had such an adventure discovering steep, challenging runs, plus some amazing pockets of powder.

On another day we went splitboarding and learned how to set up our boards and how to hike.

I knew that it would be a real challenge because the altitude makes it harder to catch your breath, but I feel so accomplished and proud of myself for not wimping out.

I was the only girl in training camp other than Jenny, but riding alongside the boys really pushed me. Anything they can do I can do better!
