6 New Season Innovations in Insulation
It’s time to turn on the heating! To get you warmed up for your next adventure here are 6 of this season’s innovations in insulation.
Following on from the success of last season, the Cerium down jacket returns with an updated design and a new range of colour options. The jacket has a unique hybrid construction, which places synthetic insulation in areas where moisture build-up is most likely, preventing the down’s performance from being compromised.
Originally developed for the U.S special forces, Polartec Alpha is one of the most breathable synthetic insulations on the market. Its unique construction optimises air circulation, which speeds up drying times and helps you to regulate your body temperature, meaning less need to remove layers and less hassle.
The drawback to down has always been its vulnerability when it comes to moisture. The solution? Hydrophobic down. Hydrophobic down clusters are treated with a durable water repellent (DWR) coating, which helps to prevent moisture from soaking in, meaning less clumping, more loft when wet and down products that are far easier to dry out.
This unique hybrid insulation is made up of 70% goose down and 30% PrimaLoft ultra-fine fibres. The result? A highly efficient fill that delivers the performance you would expect from a synthetic, along with the breathability, packability and exceptional warmth that you get from down.
By now you’re probably aware of Merino wool, a natural fibre with incredible technical properties that helps regulate your body temperature and keep odour at bay, wet or dry. It has now been adapted into a lightweight, lofting insulation, providing a fantastic natural alternative to down.
