The North Face Men's Massif Vest

The North Face Men's Massif Vest 4.8 5 12 12
Sale purchase I bought this on a whim, was lured in by the big red sale ticket. I am so glad I did, I didn't realise how much my old RAB vest had become worn over the years and lost its loft. Excellent bit of kit. 15 April 2014
Good quality down west I bought this for my mother and she likes to wear it. It is warm and has a nice fit. It also seems to be good quality. 03 February 2014
Warm, versatile and comfortable! I wanted one of these jackets for ages, and I finally bought it and haven't regretted it! It is so comfy and warm, and has big pockets to keep my hands warm too. It also packs up really small. It's perfect for a crisp Spring day! 17 March 2014
Best Christmas present ever I received this item as a gift from my fiancée, this Christmas just gone by. From the soft, lightweight feel of the wrapped package, I suspected the presence of a cotton t-shirt, or to be more specific, a selection of 3 cotton t-shirts. Imagine my surprise upon unwrapping the package on Christmas morning to find the North Face Men’s Massif Vest staring back at me. Initially, I must say, I was a little taken aback. Having never previously owned a ‘body-warmer’ jacket, of any description, I was sceptical at first at the prospect of donning such attire, especially with my impending trip down to the local watering-hole, for some Christmas drinks, on the agenda the following day. But as soon as I put my North Face Men’s Massif Vest on, that scepticism disappeared and in its place came an overwhelming sense of excitement. From the moment I laid eyes on it’s ‘Prussian Blue’ body with wine red zip & interior, it began to alter my opinion of the body-warmer as a practical clothing item and a fashion item. I have since felt compelled to wear it almost non-stop, such was the comfort, warmth, feel and sense of utter trendiness (I realise the irony that the word ‘trendiness’ may not be indeed a ‘trendy’ word to use) that came over me. Wearing this vest has been an uninterrupted, satisfaction-filled ride which has pushed me right to the limits of Men’s fashion. In one fell swoop my appearance has since transformed dramatically, from the ‘casual hobo’ look to a more desirable ‘resplendent fashionista’ vibe. I endeavour to return to Snow+Rock as soon as my annual January financial constraints have lifted and I once again have the spending power available to me to buy impulsively on some matching clobber, to enhance my new look. Fashionable? Without Doubt. Visually stunning? Absolutely. But does it do its job? Is it practical winter wear? Lets find out! From the moment I first held the vest in my hand, it’s lightweight attribute immediately grabbed my attention. It’s warmth-to-weight feature is an important feature which is advertised with this product, and is a feature that I was very keen to see in action. I might just be the only adult in the country right now that is eagerly awaiting a big-freeze, just so I can take this bad boy for a test drive, so to speak. If ‘The North Face’ were to ask me “What do you think about our Massif Vesto?”, I would have to quote the Sultans of Ping F.C. and reply, “I like your Massif vesto, I’ll put it to the test, though”. If said ‘Sultans’ had this vest, they most certainly would not be asking “Where’s me jumper?”, as they would be more than sufficiently insulated already. While not at big-freeze levels yet, there has been a notable decrease in temperature of late but my trusty vest is standing up to the elements superbly, providing me with core warmth in wintry conditions so far. Warmth retention and comfort are two of the most important factors to look out for when choosing outerwear. This item meets and exceeds those requirements with plenty to spare. Living in Ireland, late 2013 has also given me plenty of opportunity to sample the ‘Durable Water Repellent’ feature of this garment. The DWR feature of the vest beads up water on its surface to stop it soaking into the fibres. In this technology-driven age, this is an essential requirement. Between the two hand pockets on either side (one left, one right) and the craftily concealed internal stow pocket, there was ample space to store my smartphone and other electronic devices, without fear of unwanted dampness. This feature has promotes quicker drying times, and my vest is soon ready for re-wear after returning from a rain-sodden venture. The ideal Christmas gift, packed with its ‘lofty 700 fill goose down’, one could only have felt more Christmas-themed if covered in multiple sets of fairy lights while sporting a big bright star on his/her head. Perhaps one day, I may even take a trip to ‘The North Face’ factory so that I may see first-hand the thorough testing procedures that each lot of ‘goose down’ is subjected to at the production stage. Being employed in the engineering industry has allowed me to develop appreciation for such product testing procedures, and the idea of seeing the ‘loftiness’, ‘moisture resistance’ and ‘ability to gain loft after compression’ tests genuinely appeals to me. This was far and away the best gift that I received this past Christmas, way better than that 3-pack of multi-coloured socks that I got from my aunt (who sells socks in 3’s anyway?). Out of 10, I would give this product a grand total of 9.9/10. I am deducting 0.1 marks due to the fact that I wasn’t made aware of this product earlier in my life, such as during my trip to Budapest in February 2011. What better way to brave the elements of a bitter Hungarian winter than with a Hungarian goose down filled jacket? Unfortuantely, I wasn’t allowed that opportunity, due to the unavailability of your product at the time. I hope you can understand and forgive me for this marks deduction. 14 January 2014
This is a fantastically warm and versatile gilet. I've always rated North Face products after purchasing a ski suit a few years ago. This vest is such a tactile product. If you buy one you will not stop stroking it. I work outdoors a great deal and even on the coldest days this vest keeps me amazingly warm. Nice deep pockets keep hands toastie and a huge internal pocket for phone/wallet etc. 14 January 2014
my all weather friend The North face vest is a really good, comfortable fit. The down which they have used is very efficient whilst not being too heavy. this means that although the vest is very warm, it is easy to wear and to move about with, for example when i play golf. not only that - it looks really good and i feel good when i wear it. 12 February 2014

Glossary

DWR:Durable Water Repellent: A DWR-treated fabric will bead-up water on its surface to stop it soaking into the fibres. This maintains breathability and shortens drying times.
700 fill goose down:The North Face use only the highest quality Hungarian goose down in all of their products. Each lot of down is thoroughly tested at three stages of production for loftiness, moisture resistance and ability to regain loft after compression. The fill power of goose down is an indicator of two important features: warmth-to-weight ratio and compressibility, both critical to retain warmth and furnish comfort.
