The Schoffel Women’s Savona IV Pant has classic alpine styling and all the protection that you need to
enjoy the mountain. Waterproof, windproof and highly breathable, the Savona IV Pant has firm padding for added
protection and enough pockets to ensure that you can carry the essentials with you. Whilst Schoffel Venturi
fabric is extremely durable, there is added reinforcement at the ankle to protect the pant from ski edges and
an internal gaiter to make sure that the powder stays on the hill should you venture off-piste.
| Venturi Stretch 2L | Schoffel's own performance
fabric. Totally windproof, waterproof, breathable, soft and very comfortable to wear. |
| Waterproof Rating | This is measured and
expressed as Hydrostatic Head in millimetres (mm). To find out the Hydrostatic Head of a fabric the
manufacturer will take a clear tube and clamp their material over the bottom end. They will then fill
the tube slowly with water and watch to see how high the column of water can get before the material
lets drips through. The higher the hydrostatic head, the better the water protection. The European
Standard a fabric must meet to be classified as waterproof is a Hydrostatic Head rating of 1500mm, and
on average, outerwear fabrics tend to have a hydrostatic head of 10000mm and above. |
| Breathability Rating | Measurement based
on the Hohenstien test. Fabric is placed above a porous (sintered) metal plate. The plate is heated
and water is channelled into the metal plate, simulating perspiration. The plate is then kept at a
constant temperature. As water vapour passes thru the plate and the fabric, it causes Evaporative
Heat Loss and therefore more energy is needed to keep the plate at a constant temperature. |
| RET | RET is the measurement of the
resistance to evaporative heat loss. The lower the RET value, the less resistance to moisture
transfer and therefore higher breathability. Hohenstein added a unique aspect to their testing.
They had real people wear garments made with the fabrics of varying RET values and work out on a
treadmill. They gathered comments of the testers and correlated this to the RET values of the
fabrics and came up with a Comfort Rating System. RET 0-6: Very Good or Extremely Breathable -
Comfortable at higher activity rate. RET 6-13: Good or Very Breathable - Comfortable at moderate
activity rate. RET 13-20: Satisfactory or Breathable - Uncomfortable at high activity rate. RET 20-30:
Unsatisfactory or Slightly Breathable - Moderate comfort at low activity rate. RET 30+: Unsatisfactory
or Not Breathable - Uncomfortable and short tolerance time.
