good choice
bought these after reading reviews online. as expected: excellent quality and performed very well on a recent tough mudder course. Cleaned up very nicely afterwards too as I`d hoped. Very good for total immersion mud courses, light on feet and didn`t suck up or hold onto mud badly; small amount of slipping and sliding on a very muddy section but otherwise very good grip. Would recommend for anyone doing lots of muddy running courses. Can`t comment on tarmac performance as I wouldn`t use them for that; the grip/studs are plastic and would probably wear quite badly. Price-wise, they`re not the cheapest but there is an element of getting what you pay for. I suspect these are a better choice than the slightly more expensive goretex version; if you`re likely to need the extra waterproofing and breathability of the goretex you`ll quite probably find you`re doing activities where water coming over the top of the shoes would make it pointless. The speedcross 3 is arguably sufficiently waterproof.
The only con was that the drawstring lace replacement, whilst keeping them firmly attached in even cloying mud, was a little bit too long and dangled off on the left foot. It`s worth making sure it`s tucked in before starting.
I would give 5 stars, but for that last little niggle on the laces/drawstring and the price; they`re very good but not perfect. (9/10 would be fair)

Great shoe, lots of grip and padding
They are a narrow fit but if like me you have long skinny feet they are great as normally I struggle to get trainers to fit well and these are like a pair of slippers to wear.
Grip is great always feel sure footed to give you the confidence to just focus one where your feet going next not where your feet are going now, but just watch out that in the wet on very smooth surfaces and be little bit like skating on ice but if your sticking to a good mixed terrain will be fine.

Excellent light weight trail shoe
Trail shoes can often be very clunky - or overly stripped down race shoes - this is a great combination - lightweight but with a hefty spike tread and a decent trainer type wedge. Beware though the sizes are small - I am a 10 but I am wearing 12's

A good cross trainer
Gives more support and padding than other products for trail running. A little on the chunky side but protects your joints with the extra absorption.

An amazing off-road shoe.
How did I ever manage to survive without these shoes?
I am predominantly a heel-striking road runner. However, I love to run off-road & off-trai whenever I can. Trail shoes just don't have the grip & I needed something that I could use for cross-country races too. Enter the Salomon Speed Cross 3.
With a quick lace, a tread that could get you up the north face of the Eiger & tonnes of cushioning in the heel, this is just what I'd always needed. I bought a pair and have used, abused, and enjoyed virtually every step that I've taken in them. If you want a pit more damp-proofing then go for the CS version, but either way, I cannot fault these shoes.

Good, but heel is too tall for running fast descents on fells.
The grip level of these shoes is phenomenal, and they are great for ascending. However, when descending rough paths and fells, the high heel on these shoes puts a lot of torque on the ankles. These shoes aren't ideal for the rough stuff if you value your ankles.
On trails these shoes are very well-suited, and they are unstoppable in the mud!
