I got this a month ago for winter rowing, as my current pair of leggings weren't keeping me warm. While I had 'winter/cold' leggings, sitting the boat up for the rest of the crew not rowing during swap drills meant not generating heat and ended up really cold out on the water with temperatures from 0-5C.
So, I decided to double up on leggings by getting this Power Stretch pants; I use it as a mid-layer fleece over my present leggings. After trying out many other leggings, I found this to be perfect for my rowing needs. Firstly, while it's thicker than regular leggings, surprisingly it's actually a lot lighter; this means you can layer up without having to worry about excessive weight.
The slim fit and Power Stretch material allows for form fitting without bunching of material along the legs. As a rower, this is important as you don't want to to have it snagged during the slide or recovery, and sketch is key for unrestricted leg motion. The stretch material is really resilient that I had no problem pulling and putting over my other leggings. The waistband and leg ends are elasticised too. There isn't a draw string, but the waistband does the job.
During periods of intense rowing, I felt the material definitely breathed very well whilst keeping the heat in. It kept me warm without being overheated. I noticed a degree of wind resistance on windy choppy days on the water; before I used to feel the wind through my leggings, but with the Power Stretch pants, it seemed to cut most of the wind out. While not waterproof, when I get splash backs, water wasn't absorbed, and seemed to roll off more compared to pure Lycra material.
I'm waist size 30" and 1.75m, so the small size fitted very well. There was slightly more length at the waist and ankle end of the pants, however, I've tried other competing brands of similar Power Stretch mid-layer pants, and they had similar lengths and cuts, so I suppose it's meant to be like that.
Overall, I highly recommend this product for the performance, quality and value; I paid under £48 with a price-match from S&R.
