Black Diamond Stigma 4 5 1 1
Very light versatile touring ski I used this in the Alps and on an extreme conditions expedition. Pros: very light weight on ascents and flats (even with freeride bindings) therefore is particularly useful here, good sidecut for carving and quick turns, works well for steep-slope jump turns, looks cool. Cons: so light you can start to float above the slope at speed and lose control in turns, under-foot width not so great in powder but copes, needs more heft to carve in variable snow/ice conditions on expeditions. Overall I was quite satisfied and got some good red/black runs in on them in the Alps (best on red cruisers) and on expediton they handeled well on all snow types and slope angles, as well as exposed glacier skiing and behind dog-sleds. I would recommend the few models up from this for an overall ski however i.e. with wider-under foot capability for the best all-rounder if you're a downhiller or powder-fiend. 26 July 2012
