Salomon Enduro XT 800 with KZ12 B80 Binding 4.8 5 5 5
All round All Mountain Having tried many many skies over the years I found Salomons generally a very smooth ride. Recently I snapped up an amazing discounted offer at Snow & Rock on the Enduro XT 800 and headed out to catch the last of this years snow in the Portes Du Soleil. With the midday warm temperatures the conditions were varied to the extreme of ice in the morning and slush in afternoon. The XT 800's were the perfect ski, such a confident ride on ice and very tough with the rough and crusty off piste. The on piste cruising was effortless and lower down in the slush the central width took away all the agony! All in all I covered some pretty varied snow conditions and this ski didn't disappoint, just can't wait to start next season and put them in the deep stuff. 14 April 2014
Very easy to ski with Really pleased with the skis - turning was very easy, they gave me a sense of real confidence and control, happilly skied fast on them but easy on moguls too. I don't like to ski off-piste much but even in a lot of new and deep snow they worked like a charm. 01 April 2014
XT 800's were a perfect replacement for B2s I'd been using my Rossignol B2 Bandits for five seasons and had started to find they were a bit too soft on faster piste sections, turning too easily and requiring a carve when I wanted to scribe a longer, faster arc down the mountain. Used predominantly on Piste in the French Alps this season, they have provided the perfect mix of still retaining a forgiving everyday maneuverability combined with stiffness for faster sections where they were very positive, stable and responsive. A great intermediate / advanced ski. 17 February 2014
Proper workhorse I bought those skis recently and have spent 6 days skiing on them so far. I bought them to replace typical all-round piste skis hoping that they would perform better in less than ideal conditions: so far I am very happy with the purchase as they will sail through crud and heaps of snow without a glitch. The turns are easy to initiate but there is certain level of physicality required to get them carving (perhaps due to greater width). Personally I love the way you have to "manhandle" them, it makes the whole experience very satisfying :) Other than this they are very stable at speed and easy to cruise all day long. In the powder they do not seem to have enough width/length to float so I would not recommend them for anything else than occasional off-piste use, mind you I use 175cm version and weigh 91kg so I may be just too heavy for them. 30 December 2013
Me Ol' Bam boo, Me Ol' Bam boo! I have a pair of these from the season before last and I bought them new in 2012. I’ve skied on them for 15 days in total. The more I use them the more I like them, they are probably a bit on the long side for me at 182cm, I’m about 178cm tall and weigh in at 85kg on a good day, plus I have a bus pass! I like to think of myself as a very proficient skier. But like most people in the UK I still have to pick my way through a mogul field rather than bounce over it. I haven’t been lucky enough to ski much powder in all the years I’ve been skiing but the snow Gods seem to be providing more these last couple of winters. So I’m not that good in the off piste but I am looking forward to getting better at that bit. Now these skis, they do everything I ask from them from whanging down the piste and giving a railway line style edge, through the crunchy crud, and down those untracked bits the other side of the piste markers. But they are a bit of a handful. You’ve only got to pick them up to realise this is a “Big Boys” ski. They are heavy and you won’t like them when you have to carry them home from the après ski bar up to the chalet on the hill. They come with a very heavy Z12 binding mount system which lends itself to being adjusted easily so you can let your mates try them out. I do find I need a heavy ski though as I find many skis just too flappy. These planks do make me feel confident and I think a lot of that comes from the solidness of them, perhaps it’s the “old bamboo” in them. I would recommend them, but I wish I’d taken a size smaller, especially on the way back from the bar. 21 November 2013
