PRESS RELEASE: 10th August 2011
Winter Sports 2011/12
1. Hot new brands:
Nikita is an icelandic women's streetwear brand, founded by head designer Heida Birgisdottir and friends in a tiny store in Reykjavik 10 years ago.
Thirtytwo, a technical snowboard brand, use sports scientists to develop their products. They've also managed to clearly define their identity amongst the bigger brands.
Analog is a new addition to our snowboard clothing ranges in store. Already respected within the fraternity, their capsule collections will keep our snowboard offering fresh.
2. Hot new products:
Fischer's VACUUM FIT is a new revolution in custom boot fitting, guaranteeing the best possible fit for greater precision in turns. Made from their patented VACU-PLAST material the boot shell can be thermoformed to fit to the anatomy of the foot.
Salomon BBR is an innovation in ski technology. Developed by Bertrand Krafft, the shape is more reminiscent of a surfboard, but once you've tried them, you'll agree they're the work of a pure genius.
Rossignol's Scratch Pro was the leading freestyle podium ski last season. Featuring graphics from X-Games gold medallists Kevin Rolland and Xavier Bertoni this ski is exclusive to Snow+Rock.
Legendary ski manufacturer Kastle teamed up with their superstar team rider to create the FX 94 Chris Davenport Pro model. Exclusive to Snow+Rock. We've booked Chris to come back to the UK this December to host another Snow+Rock evening at the RGS.
Leki Trigger gloves - to accompany their hugely popular poles we now have the system gloves.
The big story in accessories this season is the launch of Salomon's range of goggles. The lenses have been uniquely developed to sit snug to your face while the frame moves independently to fit your helmet - removing all lens distortion and giving an amazing field of vision. They also look great and handily match all their helmets. Well you wouldn't expect anything less from Salomon!
Oakley's nifty new AIRBRAKE system makes interchanging lenses a doddle and each pair comes with a case and both bright light and flat light lenses.
3. Clothing - womens:
DETAILING: Sophisticated detailing such as ruching on side panels and gold zips and trims.
- Fresh colour combinations include lime and blues; jackets can then be worn with white pants for a more understated look.
- Purple is the new black. Wear with limes and oranges for a sporty look or with black for a sophisticated look. Purple pants replace the safe black options.
PATTERNS: are few but those select pieces are bold, bright and real statement makers.
SHELL PIECES: feature in many collections to give more flexible layering options. Wear with an ultra light down jacket or on their own for spring skiing conditions.
BACKCOUNTRY: You definitely don't need to compromise on styling and fit when venturing backcountry. Many more backcountry options are available including new additions to our ski ranges - Norrona and Arc'Teryx.
4. Clothing - womens - snowboard:
COLOURS: There's still a lot of colour but tones are more muted. Coloured fur brings an opulent feel to ranges.
SILHOUETTES: Flattering longer cut jackets with a more tailored fit create an elegant silhouette. Low bulk jackets offer high levels of insulation without loosing the feminine silhouette. More slim fit pants and jean cuts.
5. Clothing - mens:
FABRICS: 4way stretch fabrics offer superior stretch for total full freedom of movement. Brands favour innovative stretch fabric manufacturers, such as Dermizax who introduce "DermizaxNX". This new top end elastic fabric, with impeccable waterproof and breathability ratings, will be exclusive to Kjus Skiwear.
NEW MEN'S RANGE: Following the huge success of the retro styled women's range we're introducing Toni Sailer for men. Exclusive to Snow+Rock in the UK. Peak Performance are also new to our mens' ski offering.
- Bright colours with contrast zips, sit alongside muted tones of limes, greens, reds and blues. Twill is used to give a bit more texture and less of a pure sportswear look.
- Sweet has a very progressive approach to mixing colours, which mimics what many pro athletes in skiing and snowboarding are wearing.
SHELL PIECES: More and more brands are offering technical layering pieces. Most shells on the market are Gore-Tex however Salomon offers a great range of non-Gore shell outerwear at great prices.
BACKCOUNTRY: Shells in a selection of solid colours are meant to be mixed not matched. Technical brands, such as Arc'etryx and Norrona, feature pieces that are built to withstand the rigours of touring expeditions.
6. Clothing - mens - snowboard:
TRENDS: Streetwear style, workwear fabrics. Collaborations with Burton and Carhartt epitomise the streetwear look. Featuring tough fabrics such as canvas and denim along with heavy oxford and twill.
COLOURS: Muted colours and earth tones. Inject colour with red, yellow and blue.
7. Equipment - ski:

BACKCOUNTRY: Skiers looking for something extra in their trips are now turning to touring expeditions, and more brands are developing products specifically to cater for backcountry skiers. Including K2 offering pre-cut skins with their backcountry skis. The women's backcountry equipment category is expanding to cater to demand. New kit includes Dynafit's backcountry boot and ski set up, low weight but high performance.
8. Equipment - snowboard:
TECHNOLOGY: Speed is the key - simple bindings and quick boot lacing systems offer more time spent on the mountain actually riding! K2's new Conda System is the easiest lace system on the planet, with a unique combination of Boa Coiler Closure and Speed Zone Lacing.
CAMBER: It's all about Camber and Rocker - with variations of each giving boards their ride-ability. In the Burton range their new Squeezebox technology gives more power in their boards. This is added to an already impressive list of innovations.
BACKCOUNTRY: Snowboarders are no longer content with short excursions off piste, they now look further afield for the next fix of fresh powder.
