- Growth in cycling and running – record turnover for Cycle Surgery and Runners Need
- Strong trading for Snow+Rock outdoor
- 12 month Snow+Rock Group overview
- Double digit growth across all three websites
- Group footprint grows despite closing 3 Snow+Rock stores
What an incredible period it has been for London and Great Britain. First came the Jubilee, then the amazing spectacle of the Olympics. As a central London retailer we were unsure about the impact of these events, but we are pleased to report a very positive outcome across the Group with recent record turnover weeks for Cycle Surgery and Runners Need and very strong trading for Snow+Rock's outdoor category. Judging by sales of bike and running shoes the Olympics has inspired many people to be more active. The sporting feel good factor from Team GB's outstanding performance has inspired us all. Let's hope it lasts!
We have had a busy 12 months across the Group. In November 2011 we opened our biggest Tri-Brand superstore at over 14,000 square feet in the heart of Purley Way Croydon. The shop fit concept provides spacious and inviting retailing for customers in all three of our brands. We have also opened 4 new Cycle Surgery and Runners Need stores from February to April in Fulham, Wandsworth, Southwark Bridge and Waterloo Bridge. All stores provide new and existing customers with a quality retail environment offering the world's best brands. Even though spring and the majority of the summer have been the wettest on record all stores have reported good foot flow and sales.
Nike, one of our key Runners Need partners, have worked with us to refurbish 3 of our existing stores to become partnership locations - Spitalfields, Canary Wharf and Victoria, and opened a new partnership store in Southwark Bridge. We have also installed a new Asics partnership store at Waterloo Bridge, a fabulous site we found after a 2 year search. We are also planning an exciting new refit of our Snow+Rock store in Harrods in time for winter.
All 3 of our websites have reported double digit growth over the last year and have benefited from significant investment, which continues into our new financial year. The sites have had significant upgrades including a new SLI search tool, ratings and reviews for Snow+Rock and recently launched 'Click and Collect' for Cycle Surgery to deliver an outstanding service to all our customers. We have also launched specific mobile sites for Snow+Rock and Cycle Surgery.
As with any retailer in the changing market place we are constantly evaluating everything we do. Our retail estate has grown significantly over the last few years and we now trade from over 40 locations. We also have 3 Snow+Rock units that are no longer trading due to exceptional circumstances: Sadly in April our Sheffield store was burnt to the ground. We are looking into the options for the future with our landlord. Our St. Albans outlet store, originally a temporary location during the re-construction of The Snow Centre Hemel Hempstead, and latterly used as an outlet store, has recently closed due to redevelopment of the site. Our Holborn store has also come to the end of its lease after 25 years and the decision was made not to renew the lease, as the store is simply not big enough to offer our customers the range of choice that they have come to expect from Snow+Rock.
We are currently reviewing a number of retail opportunities and look forward to updating you with new openings in the near future.
As August draws to a close the winter season is almost upon us. Autumn/Winter product has already started to be delivered and will start to filter into stores from early September. The first of 6 Snow+Rock catalogues for the coming year will be with our customers by mid-September and Snowandrock.com will be fully populated with winter product by the same date. This season will also see Snow+Rock mark 30 years since opening on Kensington High Street, so customers can rest assured they're benefiting from 3 decades of experience when shopping and we will be celebrating by offering customers special deals in store – watch this space for more details.
Whilst the retail and economic climate remains challenging we remain positive about all the products we sell and the service we offer. We are sure all this will excite and motivate our customers with their up and coming activities; whether it is winter sports, outdoor, cycling or running.
