Patagonia Men's Down Sweater

Patagonia Men's Down Sweater 5 5 1 1
Light, Warm and Very Packable I have been looking for an insulation jacket that could act as an outer or mid layer and still be light and compressible. The Patagonia down jacket certainly met these criteria and also comes with the peace of mind of Patagonia's lifetime "Iron Clad" guarantee and ethical practices. The Sweater/Jacket (it really is more of a jacket) is extremely light and when worn or packed away it really adds no weight at all to your gear. Having bought this jacket in Mid-March I was a little worried that I wouldn't get to use it until the following winter. However, the jacket is cool enough to be worn on chilly mornings and afternoons as well as freezing cold temperatures. I have been pleasantly surprised to find that the jacket is much more versatile than I was expecting and it never leaves me too warm or cold. The DWR treatment is good enough for light rain and the material keeps most of the wind chill out of the jacket. The fit is close enough that you can still fit a shell over it if the weather really turns nasty. I am 5ft 6 with an athletic build and the small jacket fits me well with a little room to spare if I really need to add an extra jumper below it. So far I have only needed to wear a base layer below it to keep me toasty in temperatures down to 5 degrees. The construction of the jacket is excellent, although due to the super light weight material I doubt that it would be extremely resilient to rubbing against rocks. I do however have other Patagonia jackets in the same material and they have not been damaged by rucksack straps and any knocks and bumps from hiking. Overall I'd highly recommend this jacket and especially if you can pick one up in the end of winter sales like I did. 08 April 2014
