Osprey Mutant 38 4.8 5 4 4
Good in most respects, but suffers from the usual problem of frozen clips in freezing conditions This product packs down well and is well balanced. It's easy to vary the volume and it is excellent for attaching skis ice axe etc. the only negative is the strap fittings/clips are a bit flimsy and freeze easily, so I recommend carrying a back-up system for chest/waist strap. 03 March 2014
After setting all the straps to suit myself I found it extremely comfortable with very little movement while on the hills. I would not hesitate in promoting this bag to anyone that I know that frequents the hills as much as I do. The body of bag molds to your bag for an extremely snug fit and very comfortable fit. The top pocket has a surprising amount of space, much more than any other bag I've used or owned in the past. It is a very well built bag with lots of extras like reinforced connection points and grab handles front and back also on the top shoulders which come in handy when on a climb and wanting to secure your bag. 13 January 2014
Osprey Mutant I have needed a new winter sack for a while. After some browsing and deliberation, I had a few ideas in mind. I visited the store in Covent Garden and recieved first class service. I explained to the assistant what I wanted, my needs and the ideas I had had about which rucksacks had been recommended to me. He helped me narrow it down to three different packs. He ed it with weight and with his expert knowledge came to a decision on this one. The pack is lightweight, comfortable when loaded and looks good too. The gear loops on he waist belt are a great help. 08 January 2013
Great Alpine and cragging pack Having had this back pack for several years I feel I’m acquainted with all its positives as well as it foibles. I purchased the pack as a cragging bag essentially and for this it is great. It has ample room for a rack of climbing equipment, a pair of half ropes, shoes, harness etc as well as sustenance. For this bags harness I would say for cragging it is great being both comfortable and stable as well as being padded enough that a tell tale quick pack lump does not dig straight into your back. I have also used this pack on hut to hut trips over the Alps, it fits it all in, despite my over packing of chocolate! If I was to be carrying camping equipment I’d have to get a bigger pack. When using this pack when it is not full the Z compression can pull the back out of shape and then requires something else to keep its shape, I’ve found a 1.5l Nalgene bottle works a treat! If using the pack with little in it, it works much better without the lid. The material of the pack is light and strong, I have put a hole in the base of the pack, annoyingly on one of its first outings, when scraping it between a cam in the bottom of the pack and granite (between a rock and a hard place), it has remained but got no bigger after two more years use! In summery great crag and alpine bag, but if not carrying so much get a smaller bag. 28 August 2012
