Excellent for running a marathon on a frozen lake in Siberia!!
After reviewing different "strap on" crampons, I chose the Kathoola as they seemed best fit for purpose for the activity I was planning to use them for, namely an ice marathon in Siberia! I used them on my regular Asics road runners to run a full marathon across Lake Baikal in Siberia. I was very impressed about the grip and comfort they gave. The majority of the run was on pure black ice and some parts on compacted snow. As I didn't have the option to test them on ice before the race, I was very excited to see how much grip they would give. Much to my surprise the straps didn't move at all during the run and the spikes gave full support and comfort on both ice and snow. Using regular road runners with good cushion, I didn't really feel any discomfort from wearing them.
Only negative thing I can come up with is the price, but for me they were worth the money as they also fit my light hiking boots and can be used as crampons in the mountains were you don't need the full heavy mountaineering crampons.

Worth the money very grippy in slippy conditions. Easy to fit and to remove. They do what they say.

Simple and effective
Easy to slip on your shoes and excellent on an icy/snowy trail. The system gives a strong grip and you won't regret the expense.

Quality product that transforms your trail shoes to snow shoes
I do many. many miles running and walking over UK mountains. In winter I am reluctant to swap my light and nimble trail shoes for walking boots. The Microspikes are light and easy to fit. The grip is amazing, they compete with any boot / spike combinations I have seen out in the mountains.

Bought these spikes when walking Kentmere horseshoe 8/2/2013, snow and ice expected. They performed brilliantly on the ice up Shipman knots I felt really confident the spikes did their job perfectly. In the snow which was loose but frozen about 40cm deep no balling but there was some as we descended to the wetter stuff. Due to the connection of the front and rear spikes by chains the whole assembly stays in place, no slippage of the spikes off the heel as reported by a rival make. They are expensive yes but well worth the outlay. The competition has tried a copy of sorts but they seem to have disappeared . They are as simple to fit and remove as stated. Great product

Brilliant when needed!
I recently took part in the Spine Race which covers the Penine Way. With the weather cold and the possibility of snow I invested in some of these for emergency use. On day one the slabs that form the pathway were icy so I fitted the Kahtoolas over my trainers. They made a great difference, purchase on ice and snow was fantastic. It goes without saying that when on hard ground running they are not the most comfortable of accessories, but on soft to medium ground they dig in and don't affect running/walking style much. They were also used when our footpath got to that icy stage and they were just as good for a leisurely walk. Not the lightest for ultra marathons but were superior to 'other' brands which offset the weight.

Perfect microspikes for skiing in icy conditions aswell as walking over ice later on! Only downside is that they are very expensive, but they are worth it.
