A lot of money, but oh what a fantastic pair of skis! I deliberated long and hard about these. I was after a good all-mountain ski as I like best to play in the off-piste, steeps, trees and bumps. Curiously, their footprint was almost the same as my previous twin-tips but for a couple of inches extra length and square tails. At first they felt stiff and not as nimble as my twin-tips, but as soon as you give them clearer instructions they take off like missiles! I have only used them one week so have not really had the opportunity to try them in all conditions. However, I would say these skis, in spite of their understated looks, are true thoroughbreds and are remarkably fast and stable. They certainly need a bit of extra work and you might pay for an error of judgement on a challenging mogul field but as I texted home on my first day out these skis are AMAZING. 17 February 2014
Reasonable all rounder I bought these blind as they weren't demoable after reading rave reviews all over the place from mags as well as forums. These are the first skis I've owned in many years and I was hoping that with the march of time, technology would have made a really great all round ski that I could use anywhere in any conditions. Unfortunately it was not to be. Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy with the skis but was just hoping for more given the reviews I'd read. In general, piste performance is excellent, as good as a lot of high level skis I've demoed over the years. Can't find the speed limit, stability and control are excellent and they turn extremely easily. Tune straight out of the factory was faultless as Kastle's are reputed to be. BUT! (there had to be one), I was honestly hoping they'd float more than they do in powder. Perhaps it was a bit much to expect given that I'm 6'4, and 16 stone on the 178's, but even at reasonable speeds, they are quite "sinky". Absolutely better than a traditional piste ski in powder, but usually when I rent while away, if/when I go looking for powder or it snows heavily, I swap out my piste skis for proper wide powder skis. I wasn't expecting performance at that level but also not as far off as they are. I'll stick with them but was hoping for more. Bought them on sale at the end of last season (12/13), they only had 1 or 2 pairs left when they went on sale so good deals can be had if you're quick, despite kastle's reputation for never going on sale. 11 February 2014
