Top-quality, non-itch, cosy-warm, easy-care go-to top for outdoor kids
Merino is ideal for kids that are either active already or who are being forced into the winter to accompany parents. For the first lot warmth means longer fun, while for the second it stops the whining and doesn't put them off the outdoors.
Mine are in the second camp, and these tops are comfy, non-itchy and always at hand as either the base layer for a good walk or as a thrown-on on top of a t-shirt as a mid-layer. As they grow (and the top tightens) they'll be base-layer only.
These are really easy care - we just wash in the normal mixed load on cottons/30 degrees. The only care concession is that we don't tumble dry (they dry very quickly anyway after a normal spin). No conditioner needed - they're soft anyway. I've not noted any shrinkage.
It's indelicate to note, perhaps, but the claims of odour-resistance are true. A good week's wear with no care still left the kids as fragrant as one would expect. Certainly, no people fainting in cafes - we didn't have to tie them up outside once ;)
Merino is "in" at the moment and there are many people offering cheaper variants. Although the icebreakers are more expensive than most I think they're worth it for the flat, itch-free stitching and the way they hold their shape.
With three kids I buy neutral colours and get value via pass-me-downs. If I only had one fast-grower then I'd perhaps feel the value equation weren't in my favour until their growth rates slowed...
