Dakine Men's Zone Jacket

Dakine Men's Zone Jacket 5 5 1 1
Excellent snowboard jacket Worth every penny! This jacket was bought as a present for my son's birthday. I paid more than I wanted too as we couldn't get the right style in the cheaper ones. (Important for teenagers!) Turned out to be excellent for comfort, lightweight, warm, good pockets, looks stylish. Everything about the jacket got the thumbs up. Well worth looking at if you are thinking of buying a snowboard jacket. 22 April 2013

Glossary

2L Toray® Nylon Fine TwillA high performance 2-layer fine twill that features a smooth face hi-density weave using nylon microfibre for a soft hand feel. It offers high performance comfort by laminating a waterproof/breathable membrane to the inside of the fabric. The outside surface of the fabric is treated with a solvent-free DWR finish that provides the initial barrier to rain and snow.
DWRA finish applied to a fabric that will bead-up water on its surface to stop it soaking into the fibres. This maintains breathability and shortens drying times.
EntrantA waterproof and breathable moisture-permeable membrane that keeps rain, wind and snow out while allowing perspiration vapour to escape. Waterproof rating: 15000mm/Breathability rating: 10000g/m2/24hrs.
Waterproof Rating4
test 5This is measured and expressed as Hydrostatic Head in millimetres (mm). To find out the Hydrostatic Head of a fabric the manufacturer will take a clear tube and clamp their material over the bottom end. They will then fill the tube slowly with water and watch to see how high the column of water can get before the material lets drips through. The higher the hydrostatic head, the better the water protection. The European Standard a fabric must meet to be classified as waterproof is a Hydrostatic Head rating of 1500mm, and on average, outerwear fabrics tend to have a hydrostatic head of 10000mm and above.
Breathability RatingBreathability is measured as a rating in grams of how much vapour a square metre of fabric will allow to pass through in 24 hours (g/m2/24). For general use, 10000g/m2/24 and above is desirable. It should be noted that breathable fabrics do not stop you sweating and care should be taken as to clothing worn beneath waterproof/breathable shells. High quality base layers and fleece or insulated midlayers should in themselves draw vapour from the body and pass it outwards, thus allowing the outer fabric to do its job. Cotton clothing should never be worn as part of a performance clothing layering system.
TaffetaA thin lustrous plain weave fabric that gives the inside of a piece of clothing a luxurious hand feel.
Fully Taped SeamsEvery single seam is taped with a high quality waterproof band.
