Fab jacket! I'm in the middle of testing my new Bonfire jacket in Serre Chevalier. Le vent est plus fort! And my lovely snuggly jacket is doing very well to keep out the draft. The furry hood is providing an excellent wind break, the thumb sleeve makes sure there are no random bits of snow creeping up my arm after those occasional off piste tumbles ;-) Plenty of pockets suitable for ski passes. The colour makes it easy for my friends to spot me, patiently waiting for them to catch up! The jacket coordinates fabulously with my red and black Rossignol hybrid skis, bought last year in the Snow and Rock sale. I'm a very satisfied customer! 28 January 2013
Surprise Find This jacket was a surprise find, something that looks less ski wear, more snowboard, with quite a stylish design. There are lots of hidden pockets / extras that the more expensive jackets offer as well - so no compromises there. This is a very good option for the price. 16 January 2013

Glossary

DryLevel 2 Herringbone Weave:Bonfire’s performance rating system for waterproof and breathability levels, DryLevel 2 features versatile styles with a mix of value and technical features. Herringbone is a super soft and luscious fabric that keeps riders warm and dry.
Waterproof rating: 15000mm
Breathability: 10000g/m2/24h
Waterproof Rating:This is measured and expressed as Hydrostatic Head in millimetres (mm). To find out the Hydrostatic Head of a fabric the manufacturer will take a clear tube and clamp their material over the bottom end. They will then fill the tube slowly with water and watch to see how high the column of water can get before the material lets drips through. The higher the hydrostatic head, the better the water protection. The European Standard a fabric must meet to be classified as waterproof is a Hydrostatic Head rating of 1500mm, and on average, outerwear fabrics tend to have a hydrostatic head of 10000mm and above.
Breathability Rating:Breathability is measured as a rating in grams of how much vapour a square metre of fabric will allow to pass through in 24 hours (g/m2/24). For general use, 10000g/m2/24 and above is desirable. It should be noted that breathable fabrics do not stop you sweating and care should be taken as to clothing worn beneath waterproof/breathable shells. High quality base layers and fleece or insulated midlayers should in themselves draw vapour from the body and pass it outwards, thus allowing the outer fabric to do its job. Cotton clothing should never be worn as part of a performance clothing layering system.
Full 60g insulation:Features Polyfil and Thermore insulations, for lightweight and warm riding every day. These Synthetic insulators trap dead air through the spun insulation structure and prevent heat from escaping. Warmth from your body stays closer to you and stored inside your jacket.
G.I.F.T:Green Initiatives For Tomorrow - Initiative that takes people's trash and turns it into a variety of fabrics and insulation. It also uses more sustainable materials in the construction of equipment.
PFOA-free DWR:PFOA (Perfluorooctanioc Acid) Free DWR coatings have been part of the Bonfire line for a number of years. In keeping with the EPA (Environment Protection Agency) mandate of total elimination of PFOA in apparel by 2015, Bonfire's an industry leader for reducing the use of PFOA throughout their product line.
DWR:Durable Water Repellent - A DWR-treated fabric will bead-up water on its surface to stop it soaking into the fibres. This maintains breathability and shortens drying times.
Fully Taped Seams:Bonfire fully taped seams literally cover every hole, from every needle punch involved in the construction and production of the garment. For riders who demand total protection, fully taped seams are a basic of the best built riding gear.
