Great piece of kit
The ATC guide is a great belay plate. The guide mode is easy to use and ideal for bringing up one or two clients independently and securely.

Black Diamond ATC Guide
I have tried a few similar devices from other companies and none have been as good as this. The old adage of buy cheap, buy twice has certainly rung true.
The ATC handles various rope sizes really well, and I've had a fat 10.5mm go through with no snagging down to a pair of brand new 8mm.
If you need to turn the device round and use it in "slick" mode, it does run a little faster than I expected, until you get used to it.
Spin it upside down for "Guide" mode and again it runs smoothly, and the locking of a second rope feels very secure.
It's a tad heavier than some other brands but BD have brought out a lighter version now.
Great bit of kit, that will be with me for while I think
