Berghaus Men's Velum Jacket

Berghaus Men's Velum Jacket 5 5 5 5
Fantastic jacket Used for hill walking and MTB riding & performs superbly for both. It does exactly what is says on the tin – lightweight, breathable & waterproof. A bit on the YELLOW side but at the sale price of £100 its great value! 29 July 2013
Waterproof, very breathable, very light and packable. And yellow...very yellow. This jacket, currently on offer at half RRP due to it being last season's model, is an absolute steal. If you can put up with the colour (it's very yellow, did I mention that?) you will have a very waterproof and extremely breathable shell that is ideal for year round use, whether hill walking, scrambling, running or biking. So far it has been used on a typical summer's day in Snowdonia and it kept the rain out all day. However, there's no storm flap around the zip so how well it will fare in truly horrendous weather remains to be seen. The hood is excellent - very adjustable and well fitting, with a good wired peak. Jacket fit is technical/athletic and accurately sized (I'm usually a medium and the medium jacket fits me perfectly). There is room underneath for an insulating layer too. For something that weighs very little and packs down so small, the jacket doesn't feel in the least bit flimsy. The two chest pockets are well sized and not obscured by a rucksack hip belt. However, personally, I'd like a small, zipped internal pocket for keys/phone and such like. That is the only negative as far as I'm concerned and it's one I more than happy to live with. For a hundred notes, this jacket is an absolute bargain. As long as you like yellow. 22 July 2013

Lightweight performance I bought this jacket for a trip to the Alps as I needed a lightweight waterproof jacket. I've so far used on summer stomps up steep hills as part of my alpine training and on long rides on my mountain bike and I have every confidence it ill be great in the alps. It's a very distinctive colour, not for the shy, but I love it for bike commutes where I want to be visible but dry as well. It also looks great in photos! I recently wore it for a mountain bike ride in Dales in less than ideal weather. It was drizzly, windy and cold, I wore only a merino tshirt underneath but was comfortable - not sweaty at all despite a BIG ascent- but warm enough. My friends were cold for much of our ride but not me. It performed equally well on Atlantic Slabs in Wales- 1000ft of climbing on a terrible day, approx 8 hours on the hill. It breathed well when I was moving then I zipped it up and pulled the hood over my helmet on the belay for warmth. Again, I was just right. So a few weeks after I bought this jacket I managed to lose it. Once I confirmed I had actually lost it I ordered another straight away, I liked it so much. The athletic cut is good for people who climb, bike etc or just walk but not want to look like a rambler. It's long enough to cover my bum but not get in the way, I like the adjustable wrists and hood. Really impressed with this jacket 28 June 2013
First class gear After many years of suffering with what I thought was a waterproof jacket and ending up getting wet pockets or rain coming through the seams, I ditched the said jacket and while thinking I had wasted £40 (probably the reason it wasn't water'proof') I had actually saved myself years of wet hiking and a lot of money as my usual thinking is to just buy another cheap replacement. But not this time! I researched thoroughly and found this beauty not only in the sale but in a much more attractive, trendy (did I just use that word?) style than my previous failure was. And what a beauty it is. It weighs so little but does so much. FULLY waterproof it does what it needs to do and the extra storm hood keeps away wind and rain brilliantly. It was bought for the three peaks challenge and served me well but I'm also going to use it running/training in the wet as it weighs less than some of my t-shirts. It is a bit more expensive than others but like I now say, it's like the difference between driving a Maserati and a Mondeo. Plus you will still look cool if you were wearing this driving your Maserati in the rain with the top down. 10 June 2013
