BCA Tracker 2

Popular for a reason This is (I'm told) the most popular transceiver on the market, and for good reason. Unlike many others it is easy and intuitive to use without having to read a lengthy instruction manual - but the instructions and DVD supplied are well worth looking at as they contain a wealth of information and tips for avalanche situations. After reading and watching them I did transceiver training with a guide and found that I already understood most of what he was explaining. The transceiver is about the size of a gameboy and light enough that you don't notice wearing it. It takes 3xAAA batteries which are supplied and give plenty of battery life. The on switch is very obvious and it beeps and lights up to let you know it's working. When it's time to search, switching to search mode is easy even with gloves on and again it's obvious which mode you are in. Following a signal could not be simpler and the display updates instantly with the correct distance. A unique feature of this transceiver is the way it searches for multiple victims, which is different from most on the market - BCA (who know their stuff) think it is a better method. The guide I was with wasn't sure as he was used to different models. As with any transceiver, what really matters is how much you practice with it - if you know how to use it the multiple search function will be very effective. Range is similar to most other transceivers - my guide recommended counting on a much lower figure anyway for safety's sake so there isn't too much point worrying about the manufacturer's exact claims. All in all this is an excellent item - easy to use, lightweight and as good as if not better than others on the market. The most popular transceiver for a reason! 07 January 2014
Easy to use and Quick A very easy transceiver. It has a chunky search button which makes it easy to use with gloves on. Extremely fast, with a simple display. 03 June 2012

If skiers are caught out by an avalanche, their companions in the vicinity have their work cut out. They have to locate the victims and dig them out as quickly as possible. The chances of survival diminish rapidly after 18 minutes of burial in the snow. Avalanche transceivers are essential items of equipment for anyone going off piste. The Avalanche transceiver can make the difference between life and death. When the tracker shows you’re within 3 metres of the victim, put the beacon to the ground and prepare to use the probe and shovel.
