Arc'teryx Men's Beta AR Jacket
all you want from an all-round jacket
I bought the jacket as an all-round all-season garment. So far I have only worn it for a few weeks in the British winter. I am 1.85m tall and sportive, the L size is comfortable even with a thick jumper underneath. The jacket feels light and does not restrict my movements, the material is slightly stiff and rustly, but not unpleasantly so. Length of sleeves and waistline are optimal. Dryness and ventilation options are outstanding, the hood can be adjusted, an inner pocket can protect a few water sensitive items. This AR model is reinforced at the shoulders and underarms to make it robuster compared to the lighter model. I carry shoulder bags and rucksacks, I guess the reinforcement makes sense in the long term. The quality of the components and the build seem impeccable. I bought this as an offer and therefore the value/price ratio ought to be high.
Given the thin material, the jacket itself is not much of a heat insulator, in colder seasons it is best worn with an additonal layer underneath.

Highest quality money can buy
Lets start with the disadvantage: The price. However if you are willing to spend this much money you are getting a product that is not going to let you down. Plus a jacket like the B AR is probably going to outlast a middle range jacket 2 or 3 times over therefore strangely making it a better deal.
Perfaormance: Very durable, tough and waterproof. Don't expect it to keep you warm as it is just a shell but with 3 thin layers underneath I was warm enough skiing in temperatures around -10.
Usability: It is an all round jacket, I used it for skiing which was fine, the addition of a snow skirt may be useful but then again keeping things simple is always a good option.
Size: I am 6 ft 1" thin build and went for the medium. There is enough space for underlayers without too much "baggyness"
Misc: Good vents under arm pits, 2 large pockets at the front (not self draining) and a pocket inside the left breast for ski pass etc... Large adjustable helmet compatible hood which was easy to use.
All in all a great product with little bad points. That said the price is going o be what decides it for you are not.
Snow + Rock were very helpful in letting me order into store to try on different sizes and check before I purchased at no added cost. I highly recommend this service.

Great Jacket, little pricey
Cannot fault the jacket. Fits well, I am relatively slim and it has a relaxed fit. Having had a variety of bad experiences with waterproofs failing under heavy rain, this is the first to remain waterproof throughout. The main downside is the price, I bought this with a 20% discount (having missed the 25% on Black Friday and regretting it quickly), I don't think I would be happy paying the full price considering at the end of the day it is just a shell waterproof.

Magical protection from rain
I bought this jacket just before a 9 day walking holiday doing the Beara Way in Southwest Ireland - not renowned for its dry weather. We did not experience a single drop of rain.
I attribute our wonderful weather to my purchase of a top-of-the-range waterproof jacket!
It is also much lighter than my previous jacket.
