Best backpack I have ever had My old bergen died last year at the end of the GR11, after a solid month of hiking and i spent the better part of a year looking for a suitable replacement. I took three packs out bush, all major brands, but none of them really cut the mustard. Then I read about the Altra 65 and made the decision to buy it: best decision i ever made in regards to trekking gear. The Alta's quality is top notch, absolutely solid, with high quality materials and finish. The design is fantastic, with little extra's that show that the designers are trekkers themselves and had thought long and hard about what they wanted. Things like: the flap at the bottom to protect what you have strapped to the bottom of the pack; the big zip which makes gettings things in and out of the pack such flexibility; the wet pouch on the front of the pack; I could go on and on. It is also easily the most comfortable pack i have ever used thanks to the enormous, rotating hipbelt. I had worried that this was a gimmick and a likely weak spot, but after 230klicks of the Cevennes over 10 days I am converted. 06 October 2014
Present for my 30-yr son This was bought as a present for my 30-yr son and he couldn't be more delighted. He has used several rucksacks in the past and knows a thing or two about them..... 05 March 2014
Good solid backpack This is definitely one of the better backpacks I have ever had. It has an effiicient use of its space, and the easy access to the main compartment is definitely a plus. I also like that it is still lightweight. However there is some room for improvement: 1) Although it does have side straps, it does not provide side pockets/holders at the base into which I usually place my hiking sticks, or other such items, to prevent them slipping out from the grip of the side straps. 2) The main problem I had with the pack is the web site's advice on sizing. Per it's advice I ordered the large. But it is too large for me - the bag does not sit properly on my hips. 29 August 2013
Pricey, but no denying it's quality An excellent piece of kit - highly recommended. Lightweight, very comfortable and looks like it'll last. 13 May 2013
