25 YEARS OF SPECIALIST RETAILING:

Snow+Rock was the brainchild of skiing and climbing enthusiast Mike Browne. Opening the first store on London’s Kensington High Street in October 1982, Snow+Rock was run by a group of passionate skiers and climbers, and only offered the best gear and the best customer service. With time, the small team of staff built a reputation for their enthusiasm and their product knowledge, and Snow+Rock soon became the no.1 choice for London’s skiers and climbers.
As success grew so did the number of shops, reaching 11 units when Mike Browne retired in 2004. Andrew Brownsword, a keen skier and successful entrepreneur, then bought the brand retaining many of the original Directors who staffed the original Kensington store. Twenty-five years on and the business has grown to be the leading specialist winter sports and outdoor retailer in the UK with 16 stores, a successful website and mail order service.

RETAILING SPACE:

The original 5,000 sq.ft Kensington store is now part of a 112,000 sq.ft retail footprint across the UK. Our next major store launch will be a 10,000 sq.ft store at Chill Factoré near Manchester’s Trafford centre, bringing our total footprint to 122,000 sq.ft.
The speed of our growth has gained momentum, seeing a 65% increase in trading space since October 2004.

Our brand is our people – Snow+Rock is an organisation built on the energy and commitment of its employees. We all love the mountains and adventure and we all love working in this industry. Many of our people have helped shape the industry by being involved in Research & Development, brand forums and industry steering committees with organisations including GORE-TEX®, Salomon, Rossignol and the SIGB for many years.

This common bond exists from our youngest new recruit through to our Directors and Chairman. It’s this bond and the development of our people that make Snow+Rock such a success story, and ensure its success in the future.

In winter Snow+Rock employ in excess of 500* people including:-

Our ability to sell technical products and provide excellent customer service relies on our well-informed, enthusiastic staff. We employ a 7-strong training team who spend their life on the road and in our stores, bringing expert knowledge and skills to our staff.

Every year over 100 members of our team attend product tests and on-the-hill training events to stay well informed and full of the infectious enthusiasm that makes shopping at Snow+Rock an experience to enjoy. Along the way we test skis, snowboards, walking boots, ice gear, ropes, jackets, and packs - pretty much everything we sell – so we know what we’re talking about when we chat to customers!

PARTNERSHIPS FOR SUCCESS:

We undertake extensive Marketing and PR plans that often involve working closely with like-minded brands on events and promotions, which we feel will communicate with our consumers and grow our brand. We also sponsor a select few athletes to represent our brand in their chosen fields.
